PRESS RELEASE
May 6, 2026 – This notice relates to a data security event that Makivvik Corporation (Makivvik) discovered on February 8, 2026. Makivvik was unable to directly notify a subset of the affected individuals as Makivvik does not have valid contact information for them. This serves as an indirect notification to everyone who has not been notified directly, and to
increase awareness for everyone affected.
What happened
On February 8, 2026, we learned that some of our IT systems were impacted by a cyberattack. When we discovered the incident, we took immediate action to secure our network and protect your personal information. We have hired cybersecurity experts to assist Makivvik with the investigation and recovery. The investigation has determined that an
unauthorized actor gained access to Makivvik servers between February 5 and February 8, 2026.
During that time period, the unauthorized actor accessed and copied personal information in Makivvik’s possession.
What information was involved
Our investigation determined that members and employees personal information was likely impacted. The specific personal information varies from person to person, but likely includes full name, address, email, phone number, date of birth, social insurance number and banking information. We have no information or reason to believe that your data was targeted specifically, nor that the information is actually being misused in any way.
What are we doing
We have taken the steps necessary to address the event and are committed to fully protecting the information entrusted to us. Upon discovering this event, we immediately took steps to secure our environment and hired external experts to investigate. We have reported this incident to the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security and the Commission d’accès à l’information.
What you should do
We recommend that you remain vigilant against incidents of identity theft and fraud by reviewing your credit card reports and account statements for suspicious activity and to detect fraud. If you discover any suspicious or unusual activity on your accounts, you should promptly contact your financial institution or company,
