Tanning Agent (Seasonal)
Job Description:
Reports to: The Nunavik Furs Manager in the Economic Development Department.
Responsibilities:
- Tanning furs, hides and pelts by processing animal hides, by:
- Skinning animals;
- Fleshing pelts;
- Tanning furs;
- Repairing the furs with holes (by sewing, stitching, etc.);
- Help keeping an inventory and keeping track of customers’ furs;
- Be available to travel for training, as requested;
- Perform other related duties within the scope of the position or as requested by supervisor.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent work experience;
- Effective communication skills in at least two (2) of the three (3) languages: Inuktitut, English and/or French;
- Knowledge of sewing, hunting and trapping, is an asset;
- Inuit culture and traditional knowledge and northern environment, is an asset;
- Ability to collaborate and take initiative;
- Reliable and punctual;
- Strong organizational and time management skills;
- Self-motivated and able to work in unique environment;
- Ability to work independently, also a great team player;
- Security clearance is required.
