Job Description:
Makivvik Corporation – Justice Department
The Summer Student will support the Makivvik Justice Department in its daily operations, contributing to administrative, coordination, and program support activities. This position offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience within Inuit justice programs while developing organizational, communication, and professional skills in a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities:
Administrative & Operational Support
- Assist with organizing, filing, and maintaining program documents and records (physical and digital);
- Support the preparation and formatting of reports, summaries, and internal documents.
- Help track basic program data, statistics, and activity information.
- Assist in ensuring documents are up to date and accessible to the team.
Program & Coordination Support
- Support coordination of meetings, including preparing materials and taking meeting notes.
- Assist with maintaining action item lists and follow-ups from meetings.
- Provide support in organizing training sessions, workshops, or events.
- Help maintain communication with internal team members and external partners as needed.
Logistics Support
- Support staff and members by helping prepare and complete administrative forms and documents, including invoices, expense forms, and other basic documentation.
- Support travel arrangements (e.g., booking logistics, preparing itineraries) in collaboration with the travel department.
- Support staff by assisting with the preparation of purchase requests and related documentation.
Human Resources & Team Support
- Support onboarding-related tasks (e.g., preparing materials, organizing files);
- Provide general support to management and team members in day-to-day operations.
General Duties
- Attend team meetings to observe and learn, with opportunities to contribute as appropriate.
- Maintain organized records using tools such as Microsoft Teams and shared drives.
- Support culturally respectful and community-informed approaches in all tasks.
- Be available to travel, if required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed secondary or post-secondary education.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Teams, email).
- Interest in justice, community work, or public service is an asset.
- Knowledge of Inuit culture, language, and communities is considered an asset.
Must be able to obtain a satisfactory criminal record check. and Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality in a professional setting.
