Coordinator – Community Engagement, Qimmiit Program

Job Description:

Reports to: Director of Legal Department

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate meetings in the Nunavik communities, working with Makivvik’s Travel Department and local contacts in each community
  • Travel with the Manager of the Qimmiit Program to meetings in the communities, for 1-2 weeks at a time, on a monthly basis
  • Coordinate the travel, accommodations, and meals for Elders and be on hand during the meetings to resolve any issues with travel or accommodations
  • Film the meetings, using video equipment provided by Makivvik
  • Mange invoices and requests for payment related to the meetings and travel, coordinating with Makivvik’s Finance Department
  • Assist the Qimmiq Trust team with the on-going process to distribute the individual compensation, including answering calls and entering information into an Excel spreadsheet
  • Be available to travel, as requested;
  • Perform other related duties within the scope of the position or as requested by supervisor.

Qualifications:

The Coordinator will be a core part of the Qimmiit team, who are distributing the individual compensation for the dog slaughter in Nunavik in the 1950s and 1960s.

 

  • Inuktitut (fluent speaker) and English are required
  • Strong knowledge of Inuit values and Nunavik communities
  • Education: Post-Secondary – College, adult training
  • Traditional Inuit Knowledge: General and important knowledge required

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Prepared for frequent travel to Nunavik communities, to coordinate and attend meetings with Elders and other community members.
  • Extremely organized, reliable, and self-motivated.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and using a video camera.
