Andy Pirti was born in August 9, 1974 in Puvirnituq, Quebec. Andy grew up in the community of Akulivik and completed his high school degree from Arsaniq School in Kangiqsuaq in 1993. Once completed high school Andy pursued a higher education at CEGEP Marie-Victorin in Montreal-North where he studied social science. He later obtained a business administration degree at Vanier College in Montreal.

Prior to his employment at Makivvik Andy held the position of archivist/librarian at the Avataq Cultural Institute in 2001. Then in 2007 Andy took on the position of investment accountant in the finance department of Makivvik from 2007 to 2011. He then took on the duty as advisor to the then Treasurer Anthony Ittoshat where he held the post for 2 years.

As the newly elected executive position of Treasurer, part of his duties consists of sitting on various Makivvik subsidiary and joint venture company boards. These include Air Inuit Ltd, Bradley Air Services (better known as First Air), Nunavik Creations Inc., Halutik Enterprises Inc., Nunavik Geomatics Inc., Nunacell Inc. and Kautaq Construction Inc.

Since 2005 Andy Pirti has been an active volunteer with the Association of Montreal Inuit (AMI). AMI holds monthly feasts for urban Inuit whom have little to no access to inuit country food. Along with his common law spouse, Jennifer Hunter of Kuujjuarapik,  Andy and Jennifer have been very integral in bringing the Northern traditions to the Inuit living in the South, allowing their fellow Nunavimmiut to continue to practice and hold on to their Inuit heritage.
