Makivvik has been made aware that the websites of a car dealership and NEAS were replicated and have been used to defraud Inuit. NEAS has filed a report with the RCMP, and NEAS’ IT systems were not breached.
This type of cybercrime is known as SPOOFING. Fraudsters mislead victims and convince them (by replicating websites) that they are communicating with legitimate people, companies, or organizations.
