Lilly’s Fund was created to support Inuit families in Nunavik with a family member living with an intellectual or physical disability.
Many Inuit families in Nunavik support members living with severe and permanent physical or intellectual disabilities. These families play an essential role in providing daily care and support for their disabled loved ones. However, the support they receive is limited, and they have significant additional costs to bear.
Lilly’s Fund was named in recognition of the advocacy work of Lilly Mina, from Inukjuak. She tirelessly sought to raise awareness of the challenges faced by Nunavik Inuit families who were caring for a severely disabled family member.
Lilly’s fund was designed to help Nunavik Inuit who are living with severe and permanent disabilities, as well as their parents or guardians if they are minors.
The following criteria determine eligibility for the program:
· Be a beneficiary of the JBNQA.
· Living with a severe and permanent physical or intellectual disability, as established by a healthcare professional.
· Being 64 years old or younger.
A family living with at least one person with a severe and permanent physical or intellectual disability may be eligible to receive one of the following amounts based on the program’s criteria:
· $12 000 per person per year, in 2025-2026, if the disabled person lives at home
· $6 000 per person per year if the disabled person lives in a residential facility
This amount is not considered taxable income. However, it may affect other forms of government support.
Payments will be made by a dedicated Trust to the parents or guardians of a child under 18 years old. The parents or guardians don’t have to be 64 years old or younger.
