Makivvik is proud to announce the opening of a new trauma-informed, culturally safe and
adapted Inuit-specific southern shelter for women and children fleeing domestic violence.
The shelter will be located in central Montreal and will contribute to filling the gap faced by
vulnerable Inuit when accessing secure and stable housing during crisis. The shelter will
offer key wraparound services, with specific focus on healing, safety, and reconnection to
culture and community.
While the construction of the shelter is underway, we are now seeking the assistance of
Nunavimmiut to give the shelter a strong Inuktitut name in honor of both Nunavik, and the
women and children we will be helping.
We welcome all submissions via the Google form below.
The deadline to submit suggestions is March 30th (12pm).
Our team looks forward to providing more information on this important project at
Makivvik’s upcoming Annual General Meeting.
