Legal Advisor
Job Description:
Makivvik Corporation, created pursuant to the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement to represent the Nunavik Inuit of northern Québec (above the 55th parallel), is looking for a legal advisor with at least five (5) years of experience to be based at the corporation’s head office in Kuujjuaq, Québec.
Makivvik Corporation is a non-profit organization with political, social, cultural and economic portfolios of regional and local nature. The legal department of Makivvik Corporation provides advice to the corporation, several trusts established for the benefit of Inuit, other regional and local Nunavik organizations, and acts as general counsel to the subsidiary companies of the Corporation.
The candidate must be a member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec and will act mostly in files related to social and community development issues as well as assisting Nunavik Inuit from time to time with matters of a non-contentious nature.
The candidate should be able to work fairly autonomously but also with the other lawyers as part of the Makivvik Corporation legal department, be fluently bilingual, computer literate, cross-culturally oriented, and willing and able to travel in the northern communities of Nunavik.
