{"id":14949,"date":"2023-02-18T16:32:00","date_gmt":"2023-02-18T20:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.makivik.org\/?post_type=taqralikonline&#038;p=14949"},"modified":"2023-06-20T16:38:40","modified_gmt":"2023-06-20T20:38:40","slug":"minnie-grey-honoured","status":"publish","type":"taqralikonline","link":"https:\/\/www.makivvik.ca\/fr\/article\/minnie-grey-honoured\/","title":{"rendered":"Minnie Grey Honoured"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Minnie Grey was awarded an honorary doctorate this August from the Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al.<br><br>Grey retired in July after nine years as Executive Director of the Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services, but has had a long career focused on health, education, and the future of youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Originally from Kangirsuk, she was director of the Ungava Hospital from 1991 to 2000, then main negotiator in the tripartite discussions for the creation of a government in Nunavik. Grey has worked tirelessly to help Nunavik youth, both in terms of education and health and mental wellness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grey delivered her five-minute acceptance speech entirely in Inuktitut and gave some advice to the graduates. \u201cFor those of you graduating today, if the path you choose takes you to our communities, whether through research or intervention, I want to tell you this: don\u2019t turn into a saviour,\u201d she said. \u201cBecome our partners instead. Be open-minded. Come work, not for, but with the Inuit people, in partnership.
